The community of Fowler, Michigan, is mourning the death of Terry Lee “Red” Thelen, who passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the age of 65. Terry’s passing has left family, friends, former athletes, and community members remembering a man known for his dedication, kindness, and love for others.
Born on November 2, 1960, in Carson City, Michigan, Terry was the son of Allen O. and Gladah Elaine (Lumbert) Thelen. He was a self-employed paint and auto body professional and owned Extreme Collision II. Beyond his work, Terry was passionate about sports and spent 25 years coaching junior high track, building meaningful relationships with many young athletes who continued to appreciate his guidance.
Terry was known for putting family first and always being willing to help those he loved. He shared a special bond with his nieces and nephews, often talking sports, hunting, and teaching them valuable lessons. He also enjoyed his own athletic pursuits, including football, basketball, track, and many years playing fast-pitch softball with family and friends as part of “The Monkeys.”
Terry is survived by his brothers, Kirk “Match” Thelen, Tim “Bonehead” Thelen, and Jeff “Spook” Thelen, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles. A celebration of Terry’s life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Fowler Public Schools Athletics in his honor. His memory will continue to live on through the many lives he touched.
