The community of Birmingham, Alabama, is mourning the death of Margaret Pollard Marks, M.D., a beloved pediatric endocrinologist who passed away on August 29, 2026, at the age of 37. Margaret’s passing marks a heartbreaking loss for her family, colleagues, patients, and everyone who knew her through her dedication to medicine and children’s healthcare.
Margaret was born on July 15, 1989, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Charles and Tanya Marks. She developed a passion for medicine early in life, later earning her medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Heersink School of Medicine. She completed her pediatric residency and pediatric endocrinology and diabetes fellowship at UAB, eventually becoming an Assistant Professor in the Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.
Throughout her career, Dr. Marks was known for her intelligence, compassion, and commitment to caring for children with endocrine and diabetes-related conditions. Her patients and colleagues remembered her not only for her medical knowledge but also for the warmth, humor, and kindness she brought to every interaction.
Margaret is survived by her parents, Charles and Tanya Marks, and her sisters Marty McElrath, Morgan Marks, Amanda Walker, and Hastings Marks, along with extended family members who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her grandparents. A private memorial service will be held in her honor.
