The community of Rutherglen is mourning the passing of Chelsea McGillivray, a beloved 31-year-old first-time mother whose unexpected death during childbirth has left her family, friends, and loved ones heartbroken.
Chelsea passed away on Monday, August 24, 2026, after suffering a sudden unknown cardiac event while in labour. Despite doctors doing everything they could to save her, Chelsea tragically died following what had been described as a textbook pregnancy.
Her family described Chelsea as an amazing person and shared that it was a miracle her baby son, Tommy, survived. They said Chelsea’s final act of love was holding on long enough to help bring her newborn son safely into the world.
Chelsea’s death has left her long-term partner and Tommy’s father, Jack Mitchell, facing the challenge of raising their child without her by his side. Loved ones continue to remember Chelsea’s love, strength, and the joy she brought to those around her. May she rest in peace.
