The community of Security, Texas, is mourning the death of James Odell Knight, affectionately known as “Cotton” to his family and friends, who passed away peacefully on August 28, 2026, at the age of 101. He was surrounded by his loved ones at his home during his final moments.
Born on April 3, 1925, in Daisetta, Texas, James was the son of Julian Travis Knight and Millie Ann Morgan Knight. He dedicated part of his life to serving his country as a U.S. Army veteran during World War II, where he served in the Pacific Theater.
After his military service, James built a meaningful life centered around family and hard work. He married Billye Earle Dodd on February 9, 1946, in Houston, Texas, and together they were blessed with three daughters. He later worked for Texas Gulf Sulphur Company in Newgulf, Texas, for 32 years.
James Odell Knight will be remembered for his long life, dedication to his family, service to his country, and the memories he created with those who knew and loved him. His legacy will continue through his family and the many lives he touched throughout his remarkable 101 years. May he rest in peace.
